A connected learning path

Learn Khmer as a connected system — speaking, grammar and reading

Khmer Mastery is a browser-based Khmer-learning app for foreigners, expats, travelers and other people learning Khmer while living in Cambodia. The app contains separate Speaking and Reading courses, an audio dictionary and a review system. Take either course independently or connect practical conversation, systematic grammar and Khmer-script reading.

What you learn

The Speaking path develops useful interaction into connected communication: asking and answering questions, negation, word order, time and aspect, conditions, reasons, comparison, classifiers, modality, social register, retelling, opinion and argument. The Reading path teaches how real Khmer words are assembled and read.

Speak and understand

Practice greetings, transactions, directions, routines, plans, stories, explanations and socially appropriate conversation.

See the grammar

Discover a pattern in living language, state the rule clearly, then apply it in dialogue and recall.

Read real Khmer

Identify the base consonant, consonant series, vowels, subscripts, final consonants, modifiers and reading order.

A structured progression, not a phrasebook

Early situations create immediate usefulness, but the progression does not stop at fixed survival phrases. Later work combines clauses, locates events in time, expresses causes and conditions, compares options, retells events and supports an opinion. See the public curriculum map and teaching method.

Try the connected system

Start with a free Speaking lesson or a free Visual Decoder lesson. You can also explore the course map and use the English–Khmer dictionary with audio without first buying a course.
